We stayed one night at the Shady Motel, in Caliente, Nevada. We wanted to visit because we’d heard about the historic Caliente Railroad Depot, and we wanted to see it for ourselves. Caliente is also not far away from the Cathedral Gorge State Park, and the Kershaw-Ryan State Park.
The Caliente Railroad Depot was built by the Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad (later known as the Union Pacific Railroad) in 1923. It was constructed to serve the railroad’s division point between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City.

The first floor served as a passenger waiting room, station agent’s office, and other railroad office.

The second floor was used as a hotel.

Today, the Caliente Railroad Depot serves as the Caliente City Hall, museum, library and art gallery. I was able to take these photos through the windows.

When we visited, it was closed. (It was over the weekend.) There is also a small museum, but it was closed when we visited.
We stayed at the Shady Motel. It was very comfortable, and clean. And they do sell cute Shady themed T-Shirts which we had to buy.
I loved the clever Shady Rules.

For dinner and breakfast, we opted for the Side Track restaurant.

The food was great, service was awesome, and the prices were pre-pandemic.

The restaurant was decorated for Halloween.
I did leave my jacket behind, and only realized when we’d gotten home that that’s where I must have left it. (We take so many photos, it was relatively easy detective work.) Kevin made contact with the restaurant, who responded that yes, they did have my jacket, and they mailed it back to me. I was so impressed.
Highly recommend a visit. Stay at the Shady (and buy one of their cute “Shady” themed T-shirts), eat at the Side Track, and visit the nearby state parks.
