I can't wait for a week's time.

Here is my photo selected for 1/1/2010

SAL_0579
This image was shot using a Nikon D700. Shutter 1/200, aperture f/7.1 at 72mm, ISO 1000. Used bounce flash set at +2/3. I converted this Photo to Black and White, and played around with the levels using iPhoto.

The second photo for 1/2/2010 is from a selection of an indoor mini "studio" shoot I did using pocket wizards, alien bees, and an umbrella. I thought I'd get creative using dry kitchen food – rice, pasta etc.

I was inspired by a card that was sent to us of a lion. Here is my interpretation of it using rice, and my equipment.

SAL_0628

The rice was set up on black velvet. I had tried black wrapping paper, but it provided too much reflection. Camera – again the Nikon D700, on a tripod. shutter 1/200, f/7.1, 72mm at ISO 800. I used a pocket wizard mounted on camera to fire my off camera lighting – an alien bee, with umbrella at 1/16. The light was set up to come from above and at about 2 o'clock from position of camera. I could have bumped up the lighting/ opened up the aperture, or increased the ISO to make the rice look white. But I decided I wanted the rice color to more accurately mirror the color of the lion's mane (and my inspiration card did not show a white lion!)
