Jeff Jarvis has a lead on Fox’s run in with the FCC. Fox was fined by the FCC a staggering $1.2 million for the "sexually suggestive" content of a program entitled "Married by America".

Jeff did some digging and found that the fine was brought about by just 3 people. Yup. 3 people. That is $400,000 a piece.

I dislike the FCC. I dislike the thought of a "big brother" deciding what is decent and what isn’t. I don’t need a bunch of fuddy duddy’s or three well meaning yet narrow minded idiots telling me what to watch. Reminds me of the bad old South African days when the Censorship Board banned "Black Beauty" (it’s about a horse, Stupid!)

What the USA needs is to de- prudify. Get a life people!

I am absolutely amazed by the “indecent content” that they were fined for!! In the UK it seems you can broadcast absolutely anything (sexual content, un-PC, WHATEVER) as long as you do it after 9pm. So much for the UK being repressed and the US being the land of the free… And with that moron in the Oval Office, I can only see this sort of thing getting worse. What on earth makes people think that “reversing the moral decline” of America is going to make it a) a better place to live or b) any less hated by the rest of the world?? And in which wild fantasy did censorship ever achieve any sort of shift in morality?? It’s like criminalising prostitution. Since biblical times, how much money and resources have been spent on enforcement of these laws? And has it made ONE JOT of difference?
    A mad, mad world indeed.

    Jeanne,
There is a very nasty undercurrent in the Land of the Free- The Patriot Act was just the start. Now there is a bill that they want to pass about “Indecency”. It reminds me so much of SA’s “Immorality Act” it gives me the shivers.
What USA needs is to de-prudify. I proposed to Kevin that they need more nudity not less – so that the sight of one woman’s nipple for 3 nanoseconds doesn’t send society over the edge. And by the way nudity is not pornography.
The Brits are sooo civilized. I think the after 9pm rule is great. The trouble is the poor darling children here don’t seem to have any bed times.
Who knows. Maybe I am wrong. No one seems a bit bent out of shape about the glorious and gory violence that appears in every level of visual entertainment. But the sight of a nipple, or a little bit of sexiness … and Kaching!
