Yesterday Americans turned out, and some stood patiently in line for hours (sounds like South Africa) and voted. This morning Kerry gave his concession speech, and Bush is now in the White House for another 4 more years. While nearly 60 million Americans voted for Bush, and cost of campaigning and organizing the election amounted to the GDP’s of several developing countries, a little prairie town of no more than 8,000 people (and only 2,000 voters) voted for a property tax for preservation and acquisition of trails and open space.
The cost of this campaign was approximately $4,000.
Kevin and I joined other volunteers to knock on doors and hand out literature. I called businesses and spoke to neighbors. We each did our part.
On November 2nd, 2004 the people of Erie voted overwhelmingly for this property tax. Approximately 60% were in favor.
This feels good.
