Last weekend I decided to hit the nurseries for my spring fix. With this wonderful weather we are having, it is so tempting to forget the Colorado rule, and splurge on wonderful plants. What's the Colorado Rule? Don't plant anything until after mother's day (or first week in June.)
So I couldn't resist. We have a number of nurseries in easy driving distance here in Fort Collins.
This photo was taken 4/22 at a local nursery, Gulleys. These greenhouses are employee only, but we couldn't resist and peeked inside.
My favorite nursery is Bath Garden Center. They have a fabulous gift section. I really love their container selection.
We decided to splurge on replacing some of our terra cotta pots, with a wonderful selection of beautiful containers. Now I have to be restrained and not plant too early. See the Colorado Rule referred to earlier.
I bought a number of plants from Home Depot and Walmart.
This container is in our entry way and I decided to fill it with Thyme, Thai Basil, Italian Basil and Tarragon. This is a west facing entry way, so I am hoping it will be nice and sunny for these little plants. Of course the day I decide to plant basil, the very next day the temps drop 30 degrees, and I am worried that it will be too cold and too much of a shock for my poor basil. I end up putting hot water bottles and wrapping the container to try and protect the little guys. We shall see. Last year my basil did really well in the back yard (east facing.)
I just love spring. I can't wait for the end of the month. I am dreaming big things for the rest of my containers. Can't wait!
